Biography:

Maureen “Marina” Melita is a Lecturer of Italian, as well as the Italian Studies Coordinator at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. At Marist, she also coordinates the World Film Program. In addition, she is the Lead Translator for www.gardininotes.com, a wine notes website for World-Champion Italian Sommelier, Luca Gardini. Her research interests include Italian Women’s Theatre; Feminism in Italy; The Art of the Cinquecento, specifically the sculpture of Michelangelo and Giambologna; Living Learning Communities; Technology in the Language Classroom, and Foreign Language Acquisition in Students with Learning Disabilities. In 2012, she was the recipient of two awards for excellence in undergraduate teaching. Ms. Melita holds a Ph.D. in Romance Studies (Italian) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an M.A. in Italianistica from Middlebury College, and a B.A. in Theatre Design and Technology from the State University of New York College at Brockport.
