Biography:

Silvia Giorgini-Althoen is currently the Director of Italian Basic Courses and Senior Lecturer at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan where she teaches courses in Italian Language, Literature and Culture. She is the Director of “Scuola Arcobaleno”, an Italian Afterschool Program and of “VoluntarItaly”, for the Dante Alighieri Society Michigan Chapter. She is also a question leader for the AP Italian Language and Culture Exam and currently serving in the ACTFL Evaluation Team.

Her research interests include Second Language Acquisition, and integration of emerging technology in the foreign language classroom. She is currently researching the development of literacy and multi-literacies through folktales and fairy tales.

She graduated from the Università di Pisa with a laurea in Foreign Languages and Literatures and holds a MA in Italian Applied Linguistics and Literature from the Università per gli stranieri di Siena.
