Italica

Italica publishes critical studies on all aspects of Italian literature, culture, cinema, linguistics, language pedagogy, as well as interdisciplinary and comparative studies. The journal has a section devoted to translations of Italian major works/authors, cultural debates, and interviews, and is receptive to all scholarly methods and theoretical perspectives.

Manuscripts and editorial communications should be sent via email and/or attachment (MSWord) to the Editor, Giovanna Summerfield (summegi@auburn.edu). Attachments should be marked with the last name of the contributor, followed by the name/subject of the paper (e.g. Smith-Ariosto or Smith-Romanticism). Contributors are asked to provide a cover page with their name, complete affiliation address, phone number(s), and email and an abstract with keywords. Abstracts should not be longer than 150 words and keywords should not be more than 6. Also, please note that Italica prefers endnotes to footnotes. Italica has a blind referee policy, and all submissions are evaluated by at least two readers. The editorial staff will remove the cover sheet from the manuscript before sending it for evaluation.

Submissions must conform to the MLA Handbook Ninth Edition and use American English spelling. Only (and all) works cited in the text should appear in the list of Works Cited. In MLA, entries in the list of works cited are created using the MLA template of core elements, and are arranged in the following way: Author, Inverted. Title. Title of Container, Contributor, Version, Number, Publisher, Publication Date, Location (see MLA 9, ch. 5 and Appendix 2). Authors have to acknowledge their sources by keying brief parenthetical citations in the text to the list of works cited that appears at the end of the paper (see MLA 9, ch. 6). MLA is not an author-date citation system. Parenthetical citations should include the name of the author and a locator (page, chapter, verse, etc.). If no author is associated with a source, then a short version of the title should appear. If more than one source is associated with an author in the list of works cited, then a short version of the title (initial noun phrase, minus articles aanthe)should appear after the name of the author. Commas are used between author and title components; and semicolons between authors and between author citations and other parenthetical elements, including translations and other notes. Translations should appear in the text and follow MLA 6.75 (quotations).

Books for reviews and reviews should be mailed, as a Word attachment, to the Book Reviews Editor: Jason Laine, PSU  (italicareview@gmail.com). For Media Reviews, please contact Silvia Valisa (italicareview@gmail.com). All proposals must be submitted to the Book/Media Review Editor prior to writing a review, to ensure that the proposed review has not been assigned.

All advertising enquiries should be directed to the Advertising Editor, Ryan Calabretta-Sajder (calabret@uark.edu) or Journals Marketing & Communications Manager, Michelle Woods (msw@uillinois.edu).
